Sports Injuries and how Chiropractic can help

"Bodybuilders and fitness people have been using chiropractic very extensively in order to stay healthy and fit. I found it was better to go to a chiropractor before you got injured. We are a perfect team, the world of fitness and the world of chiropractic." - Arnold Schwarzenegger

There are all types of injuries that can occur through sports. Regardless of whether your sport is contact or non-contact any athlete can experience an injury. Oftentimes this can be exacerbated by returning to your sport before you have had a chance to fully heal. Following is a list of the most common sports injuries that we see at Four Peaks Chiropractic.

Ankle sprains- typically affecting the anterior talofibular ligament can cause severe pain, swelling and leaving a patient unable to walk.

Knee injury- multiple types of injuries can occur with your knees, the most common being patellofemoral syndrome which is caused by a repetitive movement of the patella (kneecap) with the femur. Other common injuries in the knee are sprains of the ACL, MCL, meniscus tears and strains of the various muscles in the leg.

Hamstring strains and groin pulls- any muscle can be strained but the hamstring and groin are very common due to their purpose and the lack of care that athletes takes in preventative measures.

Epicondylitis or "Tennis Elbow"- This is very common in many types of sports that require repetitive use of the upper body.

Shoulder injuries- There are multiple injuries that can affect a shoulder complex, including dislocation, rotator cuff tears, labral tears and bicep tendonitis.

The first step to any sports injury is the diagnosis. Once your Chiropractor has diagnosed your condition he can work on the treatment. Typical treatments will include manually or machine assisted adjustments to the affected joint or related spinal joints, low level laser therapy, ultrasound, rest, ice, heat and home stretches and exercises.
